Another Look at the City Aesthetics | Sharing Session on Table for Six on stage

Another Look at the City Aesthetics | Sharing Session on Table for Six on stage

To tell the story of a city, we start with an essential item of a family, the dining table. And when it comes to the dramatic story of the table itself, what would be better than starting at the theatre?

Inside every heart sits an irreplaceable dinner table. In the lead-up to Table for Six on stage, a new stage adaptation of the eponymous film, three speakers will gather at one table, using their own experience and observations to decipher the complexities of Hong Kong and the many tables that exist in the city. Urban scholar and artist Sampson Wong, scriptwriter Sunny Chan, and scenographer and costume designer Irving Cheung will be discussing the challenge of the family dinner, decoding the art of eating together and examining the wild imagination that went into recreating this dining experience on stage.

2023 Hong Kong Arts Festival Programme

Shun Hing Group Proudly Sponsors Table for Six on stage

Six people. One meal. A million problems
A hilarious dark comedy to sink your teeth into

The original film, released in 2022 to critical and popular acclaim, was written and directed by Sunny Chan, one of Hong Kong’s most promising filmmakers. He personally adapted the script for stage and has teamed up with multi-award-winning director Tony Wong (We Are Gay, 2022 HKAF) to turn the crowd-pleasing hit into an equally funny and riveting theatre experience.

Centred on the clashes between different personalities, lifestyles, values and beliefs within a mixed-up family, Table for Six on stage is at once a contemplation of familial love and misgivings, and a love letter to Hong Kong, the place we all call home. So take a seat as we serve up some big laughs and even bigger love.
